Butter vs. Margarine
Who loves cooking or eating? I guess everyone of us loves eating because of the bliss the tastes of the food brings us. But we must be critical with what we eat because it could greatly affect our health. Here's one of the many myths in nutrition that we should correct.
MYTH:
Margarine contains fewer calories than butter.
FACT:
- Margarine are plant oils processed to resemble butter.
- The caloric content and total fat content of margarine and butter are the same.
- Whipped butter or margarine has less calories because they contain air.
- Butter is slightly higher in saturated fat at 8 g compared to 5 g.
- Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter (Harvard Medical Study).
- Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of food.
- Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
- Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has only few because they are added.
- Butter has been around for centuries while margarine has been around for less than 100 years.
So, now, what do you prefer? Butter or margarine? I warned you. (laughs)
