something to ponder on...

I write about anything under the sun. I could talk about music, gadgets, movies, food, places, even my life. I could really talk about anything. And these could be things that you could ponder on.

Lethal Combination Through

Lethal Combination, the fight of Manny Pacquaio against David Diaz has just ended. The fight stood for its title. Pacquiao and Diaz was a lethal combination. They were both tough and dangerous players.
It was speculated that Diaz was the underdog of this fight. It was speculated not just by Pacman's fans but by boxing experts too. And it was a fact. Diaz is a dangerous player but Pacquiao is stronger.
On the first round, it is inevitable that Pacquiao is stronger than Diaz. Pacman is fast, focused and stronger than ever. It could be seen even on the first round that Pacquiao would win this fight. And it's no speculation, Pacman won the fight against Diaz.
In fairness to Diaz, he was strong as well. Most people thought that he would be knocked out even before the fifth round. But he was strong to stay further. He has a great stamina. I waspersonally amazed with that.
But then, Pacquaio must be really fortunate, he won and now he made a record. He is the first Asian to win four titles in different weight divisions.
As a Filipino myself, Pacquaio made each and everyone of us proud to be a Filipino.

Is Time Really Gold?

It's a cliche that the best way to spell love is T-I-M-E. There's also a saying that time is gold. Thus, it is true that time is very important. Time is something that we cannot control. No matter what we do, time will always run.

Thus, it is true that the best way to spell love is T-I-M-E. When you spend time with someone, it is like giving a part of your life that you can never get back again. And thus, it is the best way of showing someone that you love him/her and that he/she is of importance.

It is also true that time is gold. Time is valuable and imoprtant. That is why we should never waste our time by doing things that would never benefit us. It is like wasting a part of our lives. We should spend time doing noble things, things that would give is fulfillment. Moreover, if our time is of imoprtance, other people's time is equally imoprtant. Therefore, we should not waste other people's time too. We should respect their time for it is also a part of their lives that they can never get back. So, with that, we should avoid getting late and making other people wait for us.

Again, time is something we could never get back. Therefore, we should maximize it.

To be or not to be?

I asked Louise, a five year old girl, if she loves her mother. She told me that she does love her mother and it is because she has decided to do so. I was surprised to hear those words from a kid like her.
I then asked her why. She told me that love is a decision. It is your decision if you will love someone or not. Then, I asked her what she means with decision. She told me that a decision is something you think over and over. She further explained that when you have decided on something, you cannot change it anymore. Wooh! What a brilliant child!
I then told her that I don't know how to make a decision. Louise, as candid as ever, told me that I should learn to decide and that making a decision has a time. I think she's telling me that there's a time frame for deciding, sort of a deadline.
She's indeed a brilliant child. I don't really know how she came up with her words of wisdom. But one thing's for sure, making a decision is a critical thing to do. And that's why there is a need to think twice, thrice and more before making a decision. Thanks to Louise for reminding me.

Taking Step Backward

Herbal medicines have been used by our ancestors long before. Plants were used to cure ailments and illnesses. Some plants were proven effective. The use of medicinal plants were passed on from generation to generation.
Then, there are a lot of technological advancements that happened in the Philippines. Laboratory medicines were more popular and trusted then. The use of medicinal plants were not that popular anymore. And, media has also influenced people to patronize laboratory medicines which were said to be scientifically proven effective.
But I have noticed nowadays that herbal medicines are being popular again. Medicinal plants have redeemed their name. A lot of laboratory medicines in the market are made up of medicinal plants like lagundi, tahebo, ginseng, etc. What was used by our ancestors were the ones also used today.
Its amazing that we go back to the past despite the technological advances that we have. I guess people have realized that natural and organic product are effective and safe. It's good that there are now alternative medicines which were once the only medicines.

Plants are of Importance

I am currently taking up Practical Botany. In that class, we study plants not just with their scientific names, parts, and the like but we tackle the importance and use of these plants in people's lives.
Plants are essentially important in our lives. Of course, we all know that plants produce the oxygen we breathe. But other than that plants are used for food, clothing, shelter and medicines. Plants have a lot of practical uses to people.
Although we don't really notice it, our whole lives depend on plants. When we wake up, the air we breathe is produced by plants. Some of the food we eat are plants like vegetables of course, the cooking oil used in our food, catsup, pepper and many many more. Some parts of the house we live in are made up of wood. And plants are used as medicine long before and even until now.
Since plants are essential in our lives, we should value them, a lot. We should not take them for granted. And we should also plant for them to sustain us.

My Passion, Events Organzing

I was a member of the Internal Affairs Committee of our sorority last year. Then I became the Internal Affairs Head on the second semester of that year. Being in the Internal Affairs Committee, we were in-charge of organizing bonding activities for the members of our sorority and sometimes together with our brothers, the Rhoans. Our main goal is to keep the bonding between our sisses.
We organized sem-starter, Christmas Party, Alumni Homecoming and sem-ender. The grandest of all was the Alumni Homecoming since it was a part of our golden anniversary celebration. We were in-charge of its planning and execution. It was a successful event.
I realized that I have the passion for organizing such events. Now, I am dreaming of being an events organizer or planner. I want to have a business of my own after I finished college and that is to be an events organizer. I just love parties that is why I have the passion for organizing parties. I want other people to enjoy hosting parties like I did. I want people to have the confidence to invite friends over a party. And I also want party goers to enjoy the parties they will attend. I want to give anyone who wants to have, a perfect party. I'm sure they will never forget their party, without having to be stressed.
I wish this dream of mine will soon come true. Can't wait to do what I love doing.

Why Friendster?

I have always been a people person. I love meeting new acquaintances and making friends. I easily get along with people I like. I love hearing other people's stories and sharing mine as well.
And being a socially active person, I am hook with friendster too. I enjoy meeting new friends in the Internet. What I love most about friendster is having your real friends to be in your friends list. I even found my classmates in elementary in friendster. Now, I am in constant communication with them once again. Rekindling our friendship, is as easy as few clicks.
I also love sharing my photos with my friends. Every photo has a story. As they see my pictures, they'll be having a glimpse of my current hangouts. And I also like viewing my friends photos. it's like I was with them too.
Indeed, friendster has been an important part of my life. It's like I'll miss half of my life without it. And it's mainly because I love my friends. I love seeing them and communicating with them. Friendster for me is more than a personal site but a venue for friends.

Loving Human Ecology...

I am currently taking up BS Human Ecology in the University of the Philippines Los Baños. I have always thought that I am wrongly placed in the course I am taking up right now. First, it is not really my interest. Second, it is not my field of expertise. And third, I have other options. But then this is the course that I passed in the university.
Whenever I was asked what my course is, people would always ask what it's about. At first, I am also wondering like them. I was like a stranger in my own world. But having been introduced with basic concepts, I was able to have a grasp what Human Ecology is.
Now that I'm in my senior year, I have already appreciated Human Ecology. Indeed, Human Ecology is a multidisciplinary field. Basically, it deals with the study of interaction and relationship between human and the environment. Thus, there is a need to have basic concepts concerning other fields like Biology, Demography, Sociology, Anthropology, Nutrition and other sciences. Being a human ecology in the making, I have been exposed in the field. We were not just confined in the four corners of the classroom. We deal with the community. We were given a chance to have first hand experience on our field.
These experiences have let me appreciate my course more. I have learned a lot of important things in life in human ecology. Indeed, we are here to serve the people.

My Second to the Last Semester

June 16 was the first day of classes in our university. But I don't have classes on Mondays, so my first day was really on June 17. I have mentioned on my previous post that I'm excited for this semester. And now, I still am.
I met new professors and friends. I have already catched up with my old friends, my sisses and brods. The first day of classes has been a total fun. But all of my professors didn't have a lecture yet. And it was good. *laughs*
I am looking forward to a tough semester but a memorable and challenging one. This is my second to the last semester in the University and I want to make the most out of it. I wanted to have a balance between academics and extra curricular activities. I know it would be tough this time because of lot of works to do. But I'll know I'll survive this semester.
With hardwork, everything's possible.

Instant = Practical?

We're in a world where everything should be done quickly. Now, things should be done in a matter of few seconds like communicating with people, paying bills, purchasing a product and cooking and eating. But do these things really improve the quality of our lives?
I guess my question has been a long time confusion of some people. Telephones, cellular phones, Internet, instant foods and the like were invented to make our lives easier. But again, do these things really improve the quality of our lives? It is wise to be practical as always. Being practical is being efficient. The things I mentioned really make our lives easier and more comfortable. In just a few clicks, we can be able to pay our bills using the Internet or even our mobile phones. In a few typing from our mobile phones, we can be able to communicate with our loved ones. In a matter of a few minutes, we could feed our hungry stomachs.
But have you really pondered on this? If you would just think, these things that make our lives more comfortable also bring us trouble sometimes. Wonder why trouble? There has been a lot of misundersating due to miscommunication with the use of moblie phones. Instant foods are really unhealthy because of the different preservatives used. These instant things also make people less hardowrking and more lax.
So, the quaetion now is, are instant things really practical?

The Writer in Me

Since my childhood days, i have loved writing. As a kid, I'd been writing my stories in my diary and I enjoyed it so much. In my elementary years, I wrote prayers as a requirement in our Religion class. During my teenage years, I wrote a lot of poems. The most common theme of my poems is love. But I also wrote about friendship and God. Indeed, writing has always been my passion.
I wanted to be in a field where writing is the main way of life. But I was wrongly paced in the course I am taking up right now. Nevertheless, I'm still able to do what I love doing, writing. As a college student, I've been writing scientific papers, reaction papers, term papers, synthesis papers and the like. Its way scientific now than creative. But I do enjoy it too. However, I have also continued writing poems.
Now, I'm enjoying writing in a different way. It's through blogging. I love writing, so with blogging. The experience of blogging is almost the same with writing. I get to share my ideas, thoughts, feelings and the like. But what I enjoy most with blogging is being able to share my writings with people, people I don't even know.
I would always love writing.

Jana Freshie?

I'm feeling quite excited right now. Our first day of classes is about to come this Monday. And I'm just so happy about it. It's been roughly a month of bumming. Bumming has been the theme of my vacation. And I'm getting more bored each day. Now that I'm about to be busy again, I just can't help to be excited.
I'm looking forward to catching up with my friends, colleagues, sisses and brods. I really miss them so much. I can't wait to hear their stories and also to share mine. I'm also excited in bonding with them once more. Moreover, I am looking forward to meeting new friends. I just love adding more in my list of friends. Feels so fun!
I am also happy to be busy once again. I know this semester will be a busy one for me because I got lots of subjects. Also, this is my second to the last semester in the university. Feels more exciting. In a year time, I'll be graduating. And just the thought of it, gives me bliss.
So, now, I will rest to prepare for my first day. Feels like a freshie once again. Lots of laugh.

5 More Benefits of Drinking Tea

I have mentioned in one of my previous post 5 benefits of drinking tea. Now, here are more reasons why drinking tea is healthy.
1. Tea ups your immunity. An amino acid in tea called theanine activates cells involved in the body's first line of defense, reducing the risk of infection.
2. Tea makes bones healthy. It has flavanoids which help build strong bones and increases bone mineral densities.
3. Tea fights free radicals. Tea's high level of antioxidants called polyphenols, flavanoids and cathechins wage war on so-called "free radicals" in the body and prevent them from harming your healthy cells.
4. Tea keeps your heart healthy. It improves the function of endothelia, the inner lining of all bond cells such as the arteries and veins.
5. Tea helps fight cancer. Its antioxidant properties keep cells healthy and inhibit an enzyme which helps cancer cells needed in order to grow.
It's no doubt that drinking tea is healthy. So, grab yourself a glass of one now.

Love is like a Roller Coaster Ride

LOVE is like a roller coaster ride. At first, because it is intimidating, you'll be frightened to ride. but because it is enticing, you'll then find yourself falling in line to avail the ride. When your a step away from it, you'll start to have second thoughts. But you don't want to put your efforts in falling in line to waste, you'll forget all about that second thoughts and have a seat.
When you're already comfortably seated, the ride begins. There are lots of words to describe the ride --- thrilling, exciting, electrifying, dizzying --- all these feelings rolled into one. In the middle of the ride, you find yourself screaming with joy. Indeed, you'll enjoy the ride.
After the ride, you'll end up with messy hair and feeling dizzy. The only way to reach your destination is to hold on to things you think could support you. Then you should take a seat first to be composed. While resting, you'll realize that after that ride you ended up feeling wasted therefore you decide not to ride again. After a few minutes of rest, you'll then feel alright and relaxed.

After a while, you'll find yourself ready for the next roller coaster ride. These are all the same or similar with falling in love! am i right?? =)

Oral Contraceptives are Safe!

Oral contraceptives are among the commonly used birth control method. However, there have been notions that oral contraceptives are ineffective and have side effects. But oral contraceptives are also among the most effective methods. In fact, only one case of pregnancy was reported among 1,000 women who used pills correctly and consistently.
Oral contraceptives stop ovulation. Your ovaries do not release egg and without them you do not get pregnant. Fertility and ovulation returns after you stop using it. It also thickens your cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm cells to swim their way up. Though some side effects can occur such as nausea or mild headaches, serious and long term problems are rare. These side effects are tolerable and go away after few months.
So, our notions have been busted. Oral contraceptives are basically safe and effective. So, if you do not want to have a kid yet, consult your doctor for proper oral contraceptives for you or your girlfriend or wife.

Break a Leg Girls!

My sis in our sorority is fond of calling me "Mommy Long Legs". Yah, it's true that I have long legs since I'm tall. Being long legged makes head turns specially when I'm in shorts or skirt. It's awkward sometimes because I don't want to be criticized. But I love wearing shorts and skirts. And so I regularly provide my legs with Tender Loving Care (TLC).

To have fab legs, you may follow my TLC routine for my legs. First, I use spa milk salt to exfoliate dead skins so that my skin would be lighter. You may use other kinds of exfoliant. I prefer milk salt for the smoothening effect. The, I use body soap with moisturizer to keep my skin smooth. After taking a bath, I put on lotion in my skin to have a smoother finish. I also put on body oil in my legs to make them look shiny and noticeable. It's as easy as that!

Also, after standing on your feet for prolonged periods, give your legs a break by propping them against the wall for about 10 to 20 minutes to stimulate circulation. Not only this will provide relief, but it will also keep prevent varicous veins in the future.

That's just about it. You may now start to try my TLC routine. Break a leg!

Sperm Count Matters

There have been notions that a low sperm count (oligo spermia) is not a hindrance to fertilize a women's ovum because it takes only one sperm to do it. It's true but the probability that fertilization can take place decreases with lower number of sperms.

A low sperm count is one of the causes of male infertility. Stress and varicoceles are the important factors that can cause lower sperm count. But stress and varicoceles can be avoided. Stress can be remedied by proper stress management. Varicoceles on the on the other hand, are dilated veins in the scrotum which is an anatomic problem which is usually treated by a surgery. However, there are men with varicoceles that are able to have a child. This means that sperm health and number matter most. The possible explanation is that testosterone is able to compensate the situation in bunging out enough health andnumber of sperms.

It's stress again to be blame! So, guys, if you want to continue your legacy with your children, remember that sperm health and number matters. Thus, manage your time properly to avoid stress.

Water Intoxication

It is a common belief that water is essential to our body. Approximately, two-thirds of a person's body weight is water. Too little water is unhealthy and may cause problems like dizziness and heat stroke.
However, too much of everything is bad, even water. You may be wondering now if it is possible to drink too much water. Water intoxication is a rare case but can occur with excessive water ingestion. For example, 5 liters of water drunk in a short span of time can cause swelling of the cells and result in drowsiness and convulsions. Drinking large volumes of also decreases the blood potassium levels and in extreme cases, stops the heart from beating.
But these things could be avoided by drinking water at a regulated and normal pace.

Skin Fatigue

Skin fatigue is manifested by having dull, rough, dry, pimpled and wrinkled skin. It is currently being experienced by most women ages 25 to 45 years old, with busy lifestyle and subjected to everyday stressors. Studies show that stress can trigger or heighten skin problems. When stressed, our adrenal glands release cortisol, known as stress hormones. During stress, our blood vessels also become more reactive, shunting blood flow to major organs of the body like our skin. Thus, compromising blood circulation that reduces our skin's collagen and elastin.
Having a dull, rough, dry, pimpled and wrinkled skin are just physical signs of skin fatigue. Skin fatigue is an inner skin turmoil that needs inner nourishment.

What makes a Sorority Girl Busy?

There are a lot of negative notions about sorority girls. My sis defined sorority girls as bunch of girls with nothing to do. But that was only before, during her high school days. A lot has been said about sorority girls. Most people think the same way as my sis thought. For most people, sorority girls are like a normal circle of friends who just hang out doing make-ups, nail polishing, shopping, bar hopping, smoking, partying and everything girly, wild and crazy.
Upon being a sorority girl myself, I have realized that there's more to being a sorority girl. I'm a member of the UPLB Delta Lambda Sigma Sorority. We do a lot of things each year, things that I never expected. We participate in activities held by the university like assisting during campus tour for freshmen, preparing breakfast for freshmen during first day of classes, volunteering in cleaning the campus during February Fair and a lot more. We also hold our own activities inside the university and even outside the campus. Our activities in the university include Trivial Pursuit, a general information quiz contest, Harry Potter Quiz Contest, Film Showing in the university dormitories, and the list go on and on. Last year, in out golden anniversary celebration, we held a symposium for women in the university. We also held a medical mission. On the other hand, our activities outside the campus include outreach activities like participating in community development activities like in Gawad Kalinga and Habitat for Humanity. We also hold our own outreach activities for elders in home for the ageds and for children in the streets and orphanages. We also aim to promote camaraderie with other sororities, organizations and students of the university. That's why we hold activities like Inter-Sorority Badminton Tournament, Booze and Balls (a drink-all-you-can party), film showing, Aesthetics (UP shirt design contest) and a lot more.
Such a busy schedule right? But we don't just work, we also study our lessons and still find time to have some fun.

Be concern!

Who's not familiar with Al Gore's documentary film on global warming? An Inconvenient Truth revealed the current state of global warming. It exposed the causes if global warming. It also shared ideas on how to save the environment. And of those was to plant trees.
Whether we admit it or not, trees are important in our lives for a number of reasons. Trees prevent soil erosion, recycle water, create shade, help filter pollution from the air, give shelter from wind and rain, provide habitats to animals and insects, and a lot more. Trees are also economically important because they provide wood, paper, etc. Without trees, we wouldn't live a comfortable life that we live in today.
Planting trees won't do us so much trouble. It could take just a few minutes of our time. While its effects could be life saving. If we all plant even a single tree, we could have a billion of trees instantly. With that, we could undoubtedly save our Mother Earth.

Eating Chocolates = Falling in Love?

I'm a chocoholic person. I love chocolates so much. I love eating chocolate bars, chocolate flavored drinks, cake, ice cream...and everything else.

As I was reading my mom's magazine, I was surprised with what I have read about eating chocolates. Eating chocolates is an experience that some chemists aver, is the closest thing an ordinary person can do to replicate the chemical reaction that happens when one falls in love. Amazing right?

Maybe that's the reason why it has been believed that chocolates can be anti-depressant. Like in my case, eating chocolates is one of my escapes when I'm depressed. It gives me a blissful feeling, just like how falling in love does with me.

So don't be guilty when diggin' in sweet chocolates. Chocolates simply give us bliss.

Altiora Peto!

I guess everyone of us have motto in life. Our motto is what directs our actions. If you were to ask what my motto is, it's Altiora Peto. Actually, I just adapted this from our sorority's motto. It simply means to seek for higher things in life.
I have always wanted to live a proactive life. Now that I'm in college, I have been busy with a lot of things to do everyday. And I have always wanted to excel in everything I do. I don't want to be ordinary and common. I aspire to be extraordinary and unique. I don't settle for what is good but I go for the best. I don't want things done just for the sake of doing it. I always give my best shot in everything I do. I want to make a mark on whichever field of expertise my knowledge and skills will lead me.
I believe that to be successful in life, we should always aim high. Altiora Peto!
