Water Myth Busted!

It has always been believed that drinking 8 glasses of water is needed for health. But an article from a magazine I just read seem to contradict our common belief.

Believe it or not, it was said in the article that no scientific study or basis was found for this oft-repeated claim. Some diet experts even believe that drinking this much water may even be too much as ordinary drinking water does not contain the electrolytes needed by the body's cells.

I have also learned in my nutrition class that drinking mineral water is better than drinking distilled water. Drinking too much distilled water could wash away essential minerals in the body.

Whatever the real deal about number of glasses of water a day is, what's important is to drink enough liquid to avoid getting dehydrated.

Shit Zit!

According to dermatologist Manjula Jegasathy, 90% of all people carry the gene that predisposes them to acne. So, if you have lots of pimples, blame it on your parents. *haha* just kidding.
Is is so true that one's lifestyle affects one's health including physical attributes. That is why stress can trigger your pimples to emerge. A person's hormonal levels can be normal but when they're upset or stresses, they secrete a hormone called cortisol, which makes pimples more susceptible to breaking out. You secrete more of these hormones when you're stresses and when you have irregular sleeping habits. When you experience a hormonal imbalance, you also produce more androgen, a male hormone that makes the skin oily and makes you more susceptible to acne. Adult acne is different from teen acne. Adult acne can be caused by allergic reactions to some cosmetics and skin care products.
So, to get rid of those shit zit, be stress free and be careful in using cosmetics.

Eyes, Eyes baby

They say that the eyes are the windows to our soul. I guess it's true. Also, our eyes are one of the important, if not the most, organ in our body. Without our eyes, we would not be able to do what we normally do in our day-to-day lives. Therefore, we should take care and protect our eyes.
Looking at a computer monitor for hours strains out eyes. It helps to give your eyes a break every 30 minutes by looking away from the monitor and at something farther away. And I believe, it's the same in watching television ans reading for hours.
When outdoors, tou could protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses. Quality sunglasses are the ones with UV protection. Get big, glamorous shades to protect the skin around your eyes from damaging rays and to keep your eyes from the sun's glare.
It is not enough to sport the latest eye make-up. Know how to take care and protect your eyes for that truly glammed up look.

A Sweet Reminder

Most of us have sweet tooth. We have our cravings for sweets. Some want ice cream, candies, chocolates, cakes, fruit shakes and a lot more.
But do you know that the recommended daily allowance for sugar in one's diet is 2-3 tablespoons only? Too much sugar could cause excessive body fats or even diabetes. As a matter of fact, there are around 194 million people in the world who suffer from diabetes. In the Philippines, diabetes is the 9th cause of death among Filipinos.
I guess this is the reason why a good number of sugar-free products have been around and popular in the market. There are now sugar-free candies, cakes, milk, cola, chocolates, etc. Manufacturers use alternative artificial sweeteners. The most common of those is aspartame. But too much aspartame could cause complications in the brain because it releases methanol which releases toxins that could cause cancer. So, it is wise to examine in detail if what we consider safe desserts, the sugar-free sweets, contain aspartame.
If you can't stop yourself from craving the sweetest desserts, make sure to eat in moderation. Too much of anything could be harmful.

Umbrella..ella..ella

It's now time to open up those umbrellas. it's rainy season again here in the Philippines. It has been raining almost everyday.

I am getting sad because I don't like rainy days. I actually hate rainy days. I can't go out and have fun when it's raining. Most of the things I love doing are outdoors. I also hate those muddy streets, soaking wet slippers and freaky thunders.

It may sound weird but when it's raining, I have the tendency to feel sad and gloomy. I tend to remember the loneliest days of my life. And I just hate it!

However, what I enjoy about rainy days is still managing to be fashionable. It's now time to open up those lovely umbrellas. Umbrellas could be as trendy and fashionable as flip flops worn during summer. And of course, it's now time to brag those gorgeous jackets and coats. You could now look like the Hollywood stars.

Rain could not stop us from being as fashionable as ever!Ü

Persuading other people

Life is really full of bias. Agree?

Whether we admit it or not, we are people-person. We care about what other people say about us. We want to look good not just to feel better about ourselves but to impress other people.

According to Aristotle, a person's character is most important in being able to convince or persuade an audience or specific somebody. And he calls it ETHOS. Ethos is the feelings that we attach to a person. Aristotle, mentioned three factors of persuasion: Ethos, Logos and Pathos. Ethos is the character or credibility of the speaker. Logos is the logic or reasoning of the speaker. And Pathos is the emotional appeals used by the speaker.

Since Ethos, is subjective, it is created or defined by the listeners. So therefore, we should be sure to be a speaker with positive Ethos. This could be done by displaying adequate knowledge, being sincere, appearing well-groomed and personable and behaving with decorum.

With this, you're sure to make people agree with what your saying.

Protect your ears!

Do you know that hearing loss can lead to further problems?

In a study headed by Anne Marie Tharpe, an audiology researcher, those who have "minimal" hearing loss were found to have lower test scores, greater stress and behavioral problems and lower energy levels and self esteem than their "normal hearing" peers.

Therefore, we should be protecting our ears to avoid hearing damage. We may try staying at home to avoid the sound of motorcycles, pneumatic drills, horns blown and the like. But staying at home is definitely boring. You wouldn't enjoy hanging out with your friends, malling with your family, bar hopping or just walking around. Second, you may just enjoy and let yourself suffer from hearing loss then purchase hearing aids. But hearing aids are too expensive. It also doesn't look good when you're wearing one.

So you may just try to avoid using your audio gadgets like your mp3 players and music phones. Since these gadgets can produce sound more than 85 decibels, it could definitely harm our hearing. Your hearing could be damage by using these gadgets at more than half of its volume even after just 15 minutes. So to still enjoy life years from now, protect your ears. If you can't avoid using your mp3 players and music phones, just use it at half of its maximum volume and at an average of two hours a day.
